Mostbet: Kalika, who played for Turkish Super League team Konyaspor and spent three years at Galatasaray, died in a car accident Tuesday.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our player Ahmet Kalik, who earned the love of our fans and the city from his first day at Konyaspor,” the club wrote on Twitter.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
Kalik, who began his career at local club Genclerbirligi, played more than 50 games for Galatasaray in three years before moving to Konyaspor in 2020, where he played 51 games.
Between 2015 and 2017, the central defender earned eight trophies for the Turkish national team after going through the youth national teams.
A statement from the Turkish FA said the following: “It is with great sadness that we learned that Ahmet Kalik, a soccer player of the Ittifak Holding Konyaspor club, who also played in our national team, passed away as a result of a traffic accident. May Allah have mercy on the deceased.
“Our condolences to his family, relatives, Ittifak Holding Konyaspor Club and the Turkish soccer community.”
Galatasaray and the Turkish national team also honored Kalik on social media.
